At the recent South Lakes Junior Tournament there were only had 16 players and not one girl!

I wonder why this was. Is it that the girls don't like playing in competitions? We have more girls than boys in in Kendal Badminton club, so it surprised and disappointed me.

I guess there are many possible explanations and will postulate a few.

1. Is it because parents do not like giving up there time to sit around in cold halls?

2. Is it because the competitive play has been derided in recent times, particularly in the school environment? Or is it that there are some many tests tables in education that when the children have free time they don't want to challenge themselves?

3. Or is it that the format of such tournaments isn't what the children want. If so can they let us know what they want?

4. Of course badminton probably doesn't rank as high in the cool stakes as football and there other things to do at the weekend.

Whatever we want to run fun events for the junior badminton players both boys and girls and would like to hear from the juniors, parents and players alike with any suggestions or comments which might help stimulate the sport/events which I at least think can provide good fun and exercise.
